About Our Team
Shayla Adams is an Instructional Coach in Washington D.C. and has served as a history and government teacher for the past 8 years. Shayla is a Nationally Board certified Teacher and has be recognized by the White House for her achievements in Project Based Learning. Shayla's passion for teaching began when she started an SAT Prep program at her high school as a student. Her participants went on to score in the highest percentiles nationally. She went on to write "Making College Happen" a book that has helped hundreds of students navigate the college application process. She is also a member of the National Faculty of the Buck Institute of Education Development Program. Shayla is the CEO and founder of RemixEducation, an education training organization that has provided more than 100 students in Maryland, North Carolina, Georgia, and Washington, D.C. with positive youth development programming. Shayla graduated from Wellesley College in Massachusetts and received a master's degree in teaching from Duke University.
Kathryn Harris (2016-2017 MRSP Scholar, Meharry Medical College) is the first MRSP scholar from Meharry Medical College. She is working under the mentorship of Dr. Michael Sack in the Laboratory of Mitochondrial Biology and Metabolism of the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute. Her research focuses on the effect of nicotinamide riboside on inflammation. In 2014, Kathryn was the recipient of the Richard Allen Williams & Genita Evangelista Johnson/Association of Black Cardiologists Scholarship. The American Medical Association Minority Scholars Award program not only encourages diversity in medicine and alleviates debt, but also rewards commitment to the elimination of healthcare disparities, outstanding academic achievements, leadership activities and community involvement
Jasmine Hicks is the former Higher Education Manager and current National Field Director at Young Invincibles. She educates students nationally about student loan debt and how to advocate for college affordability. As a first generation college graduate, Jasmine is extremely passionate about providing students with resources to navigate the financial aid process and making informed decisions. Jasmine is a graduate of Northeastern University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and a concentration in Policy Administration.
Lauren Brown is a high school counselor in Baltimore County Public Schools. As a former middle school Spanish teacher, Lauren combines her teaching and counseling skills to support the academic, emotional, and college and career development of youth. She believes in educating the whole child and ensuring the students are prepared to enter post-secondary life college and career ready. Lauren graduated from Wellesley College in Massachusetts with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and The Johns Hopkins University in Maryland with a Masters in Science as a School Counseling Fellow.
